Ayr boost survival hopes with come-from-behind win over Dumbarton
Ayr boosted their Ladbrokes Championship survival bid by coming from behind to beat Dumbarton 2-1
Dumbarton were on top for much of the first half, with Calum Gallagher's low drive testing Ayr goalkeeper Greg Fleming and Daryll Meggatt fortunate to avoid an own goal.
The Sons opened the scoring on 21 minutes
Mark Docherty broke up an Ayr attack, with Robert Thomson provided the finish from Lewis Vaughan's cut-back.
Ayr were level on the stroke of half-time when Farid El Alagui headed Brian Gilmour's cross against the bar and turned in the rebound.
El Alagui turned provider early in the second half as Robbie Crawford finished smartly to put Ayr ahead, and Dumbarton then lost Garry Fleming to a straight red card after a bad foul on Ross Docherty.
The win took Ayr level on points with their opponents and four clear of bottom club St Mirren, who were in Irn-Bru Cup final action.
